A Glimpse from the Nursing Service Office


The 29 th batch of the regular program for the Basic Skills Training for Registered Nurses and Midwives started last June 10, 2008 until September 10, 2008 but the orientation and contract signing was held last June 6, 2008 at Seton Hall. 89 nurses and 6 midwives had registered for the said training with a total of 95 participants. They were graduates of different schools from Universidad de Sta. Isabel (56), Naga College Foundation (9), Ago Foundation College (7), Camarines Sur Community College (5), University of Nueva Caceres (4), Aquianas University of Legazpi (2), University of Saint Anthony (2), Bicol University (2), University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (1), Our Lady of Fatima University (1), University of Perpetual Help Rizal of Las Piñas (1), Global City Innovative College of Taguig City (1), Centro Escolar University of Malolos (1), University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical City (1), Unciano Colleges Inc. of Antipolo City (1), Immaculate Concepcion College of Albay (1) and De Los Santos – STI of Quezon City (1).

This Basic Skills Training is a three–months training program from two-weeks practicum-workshop of the different nursing procedures. Included in the program is the three-day Basic Intravenous Therapy Seminar-Workshop on June 23 – 25, 2008 wherein the participants inclusive for registered nurses are guided by the IV trainers and preceptors equipped with the knowledge and skills in administering IV therapy for safe and quality nursing care to patients.

Another training incorporated in the program is the Basic Life Support – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS - CPR) Training for Healthcare providers. This is a tie-up project of the Philippine National Red Cross – Safety Services and Department of Health – Emergency Management Staff with the mission to lead in the formulation of a comprehensive, integrated, coordinated health sector response to emergencies and disasters and to ensure the development of competent, dynamic, committed and compassionate health professionals equipped with the most modern and state-of-the art facilities comparable to world standard.


The Nursing Service Department of Mother Seton Hospital in coordination with Universidad de Sta. Isabel College of Nursing conducted the first Basic Skills Training (BST) Review Program for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing class 2007 who will take the Local Nursing Board Examination this June 2008. The Basic Skills Training as part of the Review Program is one of the response to the Nursing Road Map 2030 which is 80% and above passing rate in the Nurses Licensure Examination (NLE).

This three-months training program started last January 14, 2008 until April 18, 2008 with 16 participants who had the desire and willingness to avail of the BST Review Program. The program includes the two-weeks lecture-workshop of the nursing procedures and the rest of the weeks are allocated for their practicum (ward rotation) except Fridays as group lecture wherein they discuss the different body systems as a part of the intensive review for their Medical – Surgical subjects.
