In celebration of the National Hospital Week August 6-12, 2008, the Universidad de Santa Isabel-Mother Seton Hospital conducted an in-house lecture seminar on "Healthcare Waste Management" held August 6-7, 2008 at the Seton Hall in support of this year's theme "Ospital na Ligtas: Nakiki-isa sa Pangangalaga ng Kalusugan at Kalikasan."
Two batches were scheduled for the half-day seminar lecture. Participants included the personnel from the General Support Services, and other guest employees.
The topics discussed were: "Systems, Policies, Procedures and Trainings on Waste Handling" by Dr. Rene B. Tupue, AVP for Operations; "Healthcare Waste Minimization and Segregation" by Mr. Roy Cutillas, GSS Administrative Coordinator/In-house Pollution Control Officer; and, "Infection Control on Healthcare Waste Management" by Ms. Fe Encila, Nurse Supervisor and Infection Control Committee member.
Discussion of the topics turned out to be interactive wherein the participants raised issues, concerns and problems encountered in the practice and performance of their tasks.
Dr. Tupue said, "eventually all personnel shall need to undergo these kinds of lectures, seminars or trainings since infection and waste management in healthcare institution is an organization-wide responsibility."
Another activity wherein MSH participated for the week's celebration is the sports fest organized by the Bicol Medical Center. There were three (3) games held at the BMC: basketball for men, volleyball for men and women. A certificate signed by Dr. Edgardo Esplana, BMC Medical Director, was given to the Mother Seton Hospital through Sr. Dolores C. Cornejo, DC VP for Health Services, in appreciation for its participation in the said activity. |
